A Solid Foundation
Heart Prep
Pray and ask God to open your heart to receive His Word today.
Ask Him to give you the strength and determination to build your life on The Rock.
Matthew 7:24-25 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them,
may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.”
A house built on a good foundation stands. It might have plumbing issues, heating/air problems, scratched floors, and broken shutters, but if it has a good foundation it will still be standing. Jesus liked to tell parables to His disciples; they are short simple stories that illustrate a spiritual lesson. By using parables, Jesus spoke in simple terms to help them understand deep matters. When we choose to listen to God’s Word and apply it to our lives (do what He says), we can be compared to a wise man who built his house on a rock. We have a firm foundation for our faith, we are immovable, and strong when we choose to abide by God’s Word. Trusting God = strength.
Many things affect houses: rain, wind, floods, lightning, and aging. Just having a strong foundation doesn’t mean that they are safe from all harm. The wise man’s house wasn’t. And neither will our lives be. We will be hit with many trials and temptations; life will not be perfect. Even a strong Christian will go through troubles, difficulties and losses that will test her faith. But, as with the house mentioned in the Scripture above, if your foundation is on The Rock, you will be able to withstand the troubles that come your way. A foundation built upon Jesus and His Word gives you strength, now and for times to come. If you don’t have a foundation on Christ, do what contractors do; start building! The best way to do that is to learn God’s Word. Read it, memorize it, listen to teachers and preachers who explain it, pray it, and act upon it. Choice by choice, start applying God’s Word to your daily life. Building a good solid foundation is not easy, but since everything else rests on it, it sure is worth it!
Life Application
Read Matthew 7:26-27 to see what happens to a house built on a weak foundation.
What is God saying to me?
What can my first step be to having a stronger foundation for my life?
