Commit It To Jesus
Heart Prep
Lord, prepare my heart to receive a message from Your Word today.
Open my mind to understand how to apply Your directions in my life.
Proverbs 16:3 “Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.”
Do you ever make a list of things to do? I usually do when there are many tasks to accomplish. Some people get invigorated by a ‘To Do’ list, however, I often feel as if I am standing at the base of Mount Everest and just don’t know where to begin. Whether you are ready for the challenge, or you are avoiding the ‘To Do’ list like it’s the flu virus, following God’s plan in Proverbs 16:3 is the way to begin.
The word “commit”, in the original Hebrew language, paints a picture of rolling things together and ENTRUSTING them to God. I like to imagine myself taking my list and rolling it into a big ball or bundle, and placing it right at the feet of Jesus. Then, I think of Jesus picking up what seems like a boulder to me, but is like a little Ping-Pong ball in his God-hands, and then unrolling my list, re-ordering my steps, and making a plan for me to follow.
This is what it means to commit our works to the Lord. He wants to take our plans and ideas and re-order them in the way He knows things will work best. When we follow this wisdom, Jesus “establishes” our plans. This means that He sets them up; He prepares them; He fixes them; and He puts in order every aspect of the “work” (labor, business, or activity). Jesus loves us beyond measure, and He wants us to roll everything before Him and let Him show us the way. If you don’t know where to begin on your list, just roll it over to Jesus. He will give you a plan for success, and guide you in fulfilling it.
