Do My Words Matter?
Heart Prep
Ask the Lord to help you pay attention to the words you speak daily,
and ask Him to help you speak words of life over yourself and others.
Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
There is much to be said (pardon the pun) about the words we speak each and every day. If you are like most teenagers, then you are using a lot of words daily in various ways, such as in texting, video chat, journaling, posting on social media, in person, or on the phone. It stands to reason that, with so many words coming out of our mouths daily, God puts a lot of importance on the words we speak. Refer back to Proverbs 18:21 above and focus for a few moments on what it says. What a powerfully strong statement regarding the importance of the words we choose to use!
Like it or not, the words you speak every day are important. Believe it or not, your words not only help to set the course of your life but also the tone. Is there something happening in your life right now that you don’t like? Think about the words you have been using regarding this situation. Are you using negative words? Are you feeling sorry for yourself? Are you blaming others? Perhaps you need to look to the Lord and ask Him to help you speak words of life over this situation. In the next couple of days, we will look more in-depth at how our words, language, and intent, truly matter. Hopefully, you will come to understand that God has expectations when it comes to the words we use each and every day.
