Submit to God
Heart Prep
Take a moment to pray and ask God to help you see His Fatherly attributes today.
Ask Him to help you to see the freedom in submitting to Him.
James 4:7 “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
If you’re like me, and you need to review your vocabulary, Merriam-Webster defines submit as “to yield to governance or authority” (Merriam-Webster, Incorporated, 2019). The word yield means to surrender. When you submit yourself to God that means you’re surrendering yourself to Him. Whatever He says goes. You’re not the leader of your life anymore. He gets to lead it. He is your Authority. You might not be good with authority right now in your life, or you might think it’s lame. I struggled with it when I was young, so you’re not alone. I got in a lot of trouble as a kid. The belt practically had my name engraved on it. But I grew out of it the more I realized how good authority actually was.
The truth is, authority helps keep order. And I promise you, no matter how much you like doing your own thing, your world needs order. You need order. You need someone guiding you right now and throughout the rest of your life. And that is where God comes in. You could imagine God as the driver of your life/car. Your car is on a long journey through curvy roads, beautiful views, stormy weather, flat-tires, stop signs, traffic lights and even more. God knows the road like the back of His Hand. He created the road; He created the journey you’re on. Granted, He didn’t create the bad things that happen to you along the way, but He allowed them, and He can turn those bad things into good if you’ll let Him. Let Him lead and drive you on the path that He created for you.
