The Battlefield of Your Mind

Heart Prep

Pray and ask God to open your mind to Him and His peace.
Ask Him to settle whatever is in your heart and mind that is weighing you down.

Psalm 77:11 “I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.”

A man named Asaph wrote Psalm 77. He was having a troublesome time in his life, and he cried out to God. He was waiting, reaching out, and looking for help with his trouble. He couldn’t sleep, and his heart was searching for an answer to why this trouble had come upon him. While his heart was searching, the devil sent lies into his mind to tempt him not to trust God. Asaph’s mind became full of thoughts such as: Will God reject me forever? Has His love run out forever? Has He forgotten to be gracious to me? Why is this happening to me? His mind took a dive off the deep end! But what happened next is so important.

After speaking those things, he said, “I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.” Asaph made a choice to change his way of thinking. Instead of continuing to dive into the deep, he chose to completely stop and go in the other direction. He chose to think of God and the wonderful things He has done in the past, rather than thinking about his huge problem. It made a difference, because throughout the rest of the Psalm he praised and glorified God for multiple things. His whole attitude changed once he changed his way of thinking. The same can be true with you. When something bad comes your way and begins to deteriorate your thoughts, choose to change the path of your thinking. It will make a difference: if not immediately, keep doing it until it does.

God heard Asaph. The awesome thing is that God hears every cry of our heart and sees every one of our tears. He heard Asaph’s cry to Him, but it was Asaph who chose to change his thoughts! When he did, the peace of God came to his heart.

Life Application
