Two Wolves
Heart Prep
Pray and ask God to open your heart to see the light and hope in Him. Ask Him to help you overcome negativity in order to pursue goodness, and enjoy the life He’s given you.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute,
if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
In the movie, “Tomorrowland”, there’s an amazing quote that I will never forget. One of the characters, Casey, said, “There are two wolves that are always fighting (inside of you). One is darkness and despair. The other is light and hope. The question is: which wolf wins?” (Bird, Lindelof, & Jensen, 2015). Her friend, Nate, replies, “The one you feed” (Bird, Lindelof, & Jensen, 2015). Take a moment and think about that. If you’re feeding the wolf of darkness and despair, that wolf will get stronger and will gain power over you. If you feed the wolf of light and hope, that wolf will get stronger and will win the battle for your mind and heart.
I, myself, am coming out of what is probably the darkest time in my life so far. It turns out that I was feeding the wrong wolf. It kept getting stronger and stronger, while the other wolf got weaker. Before long, I was full of despair and darkness instead of light and hope. I got that way by continually thinking the worst about everything, and not making a choice to try to think brighter thoughts. It’s a choice, guys. It’s a hard choice, but it’s one you need to make over and over again. When you think about what is true, honorable, right, pure, and lovely, what do you think your mind will be full of? Your thoughts can determine the kind of person you are. The devil tries his best to confuse and cloud your mind, because he knows the mind is a powerful thing. If he can keep you thinking negative thoughts, he can steal your joy. But God says to think light thoughts. Think of true and pure things. Make a point to think of things that inspire you. You’ll find your way back to the light. Believe me. I found my way back! Give God a chance to help you change your negative tendencies. Seek Him in the struggle.
Life Application
What wolf am I feeding in my life?
How can I start feeding the right wolf or start feeding it more often?
Pray and ask God to help you with your thoughts. Seek Him during the struggle.
When you find yourself thinking the wrong kind of thoughts, say, “I’m not going to think about that!”
Then purposely choose something good to think about! Or sing a good song!
