What Does the Lord Require of You?
Heart Prep
Dear God, I pray that You will take this devotional and use it to open my eyes to see Your plans for my life. I want You to be first and foremost in my life today and every day. Show me how You want me to live for You.”
Micah 6:8 “He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you but
to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
“Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.” This verse exemplifies so much of what it means to be a follower of Christ. I want us to break down each piece of this verse to see what it means.
I want you to focus on the phrase where Micah says God has told us what things are good, and that these things are REQUIRED of us. As Christians--those who have asked for forgiveness and have asked Jesus to lead their lives--we are called to live a life that is set apart from the world and shows others what we believe. Here, Micah gives us the instructions to do just that.
Do Justice--Do what is honest and fair. This can be hard for us at times. It is easy for us to take advantage of others and not treat them fairly. However, Christ has called us to love one another in the same way that He loves us–He was willing to lay down His life for us.
Love Mercy--Show forgiveness toward someone when it is actually within your power to punish them. We have opportunities to show mercy to others every single day. We are not perfect, and we fail one another every day. Showing toward others the mercy we have received from Christ is a great way to be a servant of Christ and show His love to others who don’t know of Him.
Walk Humbly with your God--See yourself as the sinner that you are, but also see the saving power of Christ which cleanses you. Seeing this, and thinking of the suffering that Christ took in your place should humble you to a place of thankful obedience.
Today, instead of questions, I want you to pray and reflect on what God is saying through these verses:
Life Application
Do Justice--John 15:9-15
Love Mercy--Romans 12: 14-21
Walk Humbly with your God--Colossians 3:12
