A Shooting Star
Heart Prep
Take this time to ask God to open your heart to enjoy Him and His presence.
Ask Him for newness in your life. Ask Him to bring light into your life just as a shooting star brings light to a dark sky.
Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
A few years ago, the night after Thanksgiving, I was lying on top of my Jeep with a blanket and pillow looking at the stars. I spent a lot of time outside back then. I’d take walks in the afternoons and talk to God. I’d also sit outside at night and look at the stars and talk to Him. It was so calming. That one night, I was lying there on top of my jeep talking to God and just admiring the beautiful night sky. I thanked Him for being so good to me and prayed about multiple things that were going on in my life right then. I got to thinking and I said, “God, it would be so cool if you sent a shooting star.” I laid there for a little bit and then, sure as you know it, a shooting star went across the sky. I literally started laughing, out of happiness, and was like, “Wow!!! YOU JUST SENT A SHOOTING STAR!!!” I laid there for a while just mesmerized at the fact that God heard me. I praised Him. Now... you might be thinking that was a lucky coincidence. Keep listening. I laid there a little while longer and thought, “God it’d be really cool if you would send another shooting star. That’d be awesome.” Guess what He did? He sent two more.
God may not send shooting stars every time we ask, and He doesn’t always answer us just like we think He should, but He’s always there wanting to spend every moment with us. He wants us to delight in Him and seek after Him. He longs to be involved with every aspect of our life. He enjoys you and wants to spend time with you, even if you’re just watching the stars.
