“You say I am Loved”

Heart Prep

Ask the Lord to help you believe the truth that He loves you.

Jeremiah 31:3 “The LORD appeared to him from afar, saying, ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.’”

The song, “You Say”, by Lauren Daigle is a beautiful song that reminds us that God says we are: loved, strong, held and His. It’s important to remember these truths when the devil tries to convince us that we’re unloved, weak, not good enough, or outcasts. But how do we know the words in this song are true?

Take a minute to read the following verses and underline words that jump out at you:

❐ Jeremiah 31:3 – God has always loved you and will always love you.  Nothing can change that.

❐ John 3:16 – God loved you so much, He sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die in your

      place.

❐ Romans 5:8 – Jesus Christ proved His love for you by dying on the cross for your sins.

❐ Romans 8:35–39 – Nothing can separate you from the love of God.

❐ Ephesians 2:4-7 – God loves you so much, if you repent of your sins and accept His free gift of

salvation you are awarded the same eternal life that Jesus Christ possesses.

❐ 1 John 3:1 – God loves you so much, He has made you a part of His family.

❐ 1 John 4:19 - Jesus Christ loved you first, and that is the only way you know true love.

All these verses point to the truth that God loves us, and in the song, Lauren summarizes these truths in the phrase, “You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing” (Ingram, Mabury, & Daigle, 2018). You are loved by God, and whether or not you can “feel” God’s love does not impact its existence. We women often “feel” things that aren’t accurate, especially when our hormones are out-of-whack, so it’s important to remember to base our beliefs on truth and not on our feelings. Truth: God loves you.

In order to ingrain truth into our hearts and minds, it’s important that we not only read truth but also meditate on it, read it often and memorize it. Then God can bring it to our minds when the devil lies to us and tells us something contrary to truth. Choose your favorite verse from the ones we looked at today and write it on a notecard or piece of paper. Put it up somewhere where you will see it every day, perhaps on your bedroom or bathroom mirror, and read it out loud to yourself once a day. What verse did you choose?

 Life Application

Commit to memorizing the verse you’ve written out. If you repeat it out loud to yourself several times a day you’ll be surprised how fast you’ll memorize it.

The next time the devil tries to feed you the lie that you are unloved, quote your verse out loud to him, and remind him that God says He loves you, and you believe God.  Listen to the song, “You Say”, by Lauren Daigle.
