Wings Of A Dove
Heart Prep
Take this time to pray and ask God for strength to deal with things
that may come your way or already have come your way.
Ask Him to give you comfort as you come to Him, your refuge.
Psalm 55:5-6 “Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me. I said,
‘Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.’”
Have you ever wanted to fly away? That might sound silly to some people, but I have sometimes wanted to just fly away. Sometimes, when something bad came up in my life, I would daydream about it. I’d lie in the hayfield next to my house and look at the beautiful blue sky, picturing myself flying away like a bird. David, the author of this Psalm felt the same way. It’s nice to see I wasn’t the only one feeling like that. That’s how a lot of things in the Bible are. If you’ve felt something, or thought something, it is more than likely talked about in the Bible. Somebody else felt it, too, back then, and it was written about in order to help people in the future. No matter how much time changes things, human beings are still the same. God blessed us with His Word, so we can have wisdom and comfort in our day-to-day lives. Scary things might come up in our lives making us feel like we have no idea what we’re going to do. Maybe that something is parent-related, school-related, past- or future-related, health- or friends-related, or anything else under the sun, and we might feel like we just want to fly away like a dove and rest. That’s ok. My slogan is, “Feel it, but don’t let it overcome you.” So, if you need to fly away for a little while and rest, do it. Find a spot where you can be alone and read a passage of scripture or pray and tell God what’s going on and why you feel you need to fly away. He hears you. He says, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).” Find your rest in the Lord.
