Boundaries

Help me learn that the boundaries You have given me are good. Help me thrive in the place You have for me, and learn that Your limits in my life are there to keep me in pleasant places, and to keep me safe.

Psalm 16:5-6 “The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; you support my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.”

The saying goes, “The grass is always greener on the other side.” But I saw a picture on Facebook that said, “The grass is greener where you water it.”  It’s tough to stay inside boundaries.  It’s human nature to go against authority, to want to be free and do whatever we want. I’m sure you can think of some boundaries in your life. Do you have a curfew? Did your teacher assign a paper and give you certain directions to follow? These are boundaries set in place to give you direction.

God has given us boundaries too. Boundaries are not meant to hinder us or ruin our fun. Boundaries are set to keep us in check, and to keep us safe, the same way a fence keeps a small child off a busy road. Even when we don’t understand why God established certain boundaries, we can be assured that they are there for a reason. One boundary that is often tested is the sexual boundary. God created sex, and it is good. But only inside the boundary of marriage. Participating in it outside of that boundary will cause hurt and harm, and sometimes consequences very hard to bear.  Through His Word we learn that He placed other spiritual boundaries in our lives as well. From the friends we have, to our actions and thoughts, the boundaries are to keep us safe, and to help us lead lives that are honoring to Him. God loves us. God has our best interests at heart, and His boundaries are good.

Today’s verse says God’s boundaries are set in pleasant places. Do you believe this verse is true? Do you think God’s boundaries are fair?

What are some boundaries you need to set in your life? Less screen time and more prayer time? Less time spent with certain people?  Only clean language?

We often spend so much time thinking about what we are missing out on, that we forget what blessings we already have. The grass is greener where you water it. Plant some seeds of contentment today, and thank God for some of His boundaries that keep you in pleasant places.
