I Am the Clay
You are the Potter, God. Help me remember that You have my life in Your hands, and that Your ways are better than mine. Mold me to be more like You and help me represent You everyday.
Isaiah 64:8 "But now, O Lord, You are our Father, we are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand.”
It is interesting to watch a skilled potter make clay bowls or pots… He can take a lump of brown dirt and turn it into a beautiful piece of art right before your eyes. God is the Master Potter. He formed you in your mother’s womb, and He has great plans for you! (Psalm 139) So He takes time to mold you and re-form you, to remake your heart and remove the tiny imperfections of your character. Sometimes this is painful. But He is working to conform you into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. The finished product will be a woman of true beauty, because the most amazing Creator crafted her!
As the clay in the Potter’s hands, we have some responsibilities. Frist, we have to stay moldable. If the clay in the Potter’s hands dries out He can no longer shape it into what he wants it to be. In order to stay moldable we have to be willing to change. We have to study God’s Word, and listen, and obey. If we continually say, “No”, to God then our hearts will harden and be unyielding to His control. Second, we have to stay in the Potter’s hands. We cannot be molded if we jump off the Potter’s wheel. We have to trust that God has a plan, and patiently and humbly allow Him to work. We must grow our relationship with Him daily; get to know Him, and His character. And last, we have to admit that we make mistakes. God is loving, and forgiving, and if we let Him, He will place us back on His potter’s wheel and work those mistakes into elements of beauty in us. Place your life into the able hands of the Potter, and let Him mold you into the lady you were always meant to be.
